This might be a bit controversial but I don’t mean for it to be. I just want to share the thoughts I was having yesterday. As I was at football thinking about students and what they go through in public school everyday I thought “were is the love.”
See I believe public schools (and our culture) are in the condition they are in because followers of Christ are no longer showing His love in public. The love of God is so needed, but there are very few Christ followers in these public places to it. We have removed ourselves from the very places that need us.
Is your life stationed in a place that needs to see the love of Christ? Hey Christ follower we gotta show love in public.
One’s faith is not something you can turn on Sunday and turn off the rest of the week. We must be willing to live a life of intention and where there is intention, there has to be love. We cannot be in such a hurry that we are distracted from the needs around us.
I agree with you, Jeremy, that school is a reflection of society at large, and kids are looking for love. Kids today are in need of love more than ever, and that is why being a bus driver is so rewarding to me. I love to make sure the kids get to school safely by someone who really cares. I love driving the kids to sporting events and watching them compete and I love watching them interact – just being kids.
While I know that many will not see that I care as I do, there will be those students who recognize that the bus driver cares enough to know their names and what interestes them. She will talk with them and listen to what they have to say. I am listening even when they don’t realize I am listening because it leads to opportunities to pray for them.
To love simply means that we make ourselves available to the needs of others – to be willing to care.
Recently my son had a serious footbal injury and was sent by ambulance to the hospital. Nothing was more comforting than having a coach who was willing to pray with us while we waited for our son to go for x-rays. While emergency rooms can be very frightening places, I felt very much at peace that evening knowing that God was in charge and he had directed a faithful servant to lift the circumstance in prayer. May God bless that servant’s faithfulness!
