This morning, as I sit here and read the scriptures, I can’t help but think that we are falling into a trap that the Scriptures warned us about. Over and over again in the Scriptures we see the people of God being challenged to be separate, to be set a part, from those around them.
But today I see Christians trying so hard to fit in. We have adopted so many of the cultural norms that I believe in many ways we no longer stand out. The people of God are to observe the ways of God, do we even know what this means or looks like in today’s culture?
- What are the ways of God?
- What are the ways of the world?
- Are you bowing down and serving other gods with your thoughts and actions?
I read this Old Testament text and the warning seem very clear to the people of God. Joshua 23:1-16
“Therefore be very steadfast to observe and do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses”
“Be very careful, therefore, to love the Lord your God.”
God has planned good for his people, but we must remain focused on him and his ways. I will not become trapped by way of the world. May we fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith and may may we become more and more like him.
