Ok so from the title you can see that i wasnt willing to write Rob Bell in the title. Some may feel that to even consider liking anything from Bell is like aligning oneself with the antichrist.
But if your reading this then maybe your one step closer to loving like Jesus and one step further away from judging those you don’t know.
The following is from Rob Bells newest book. I started reading it after I saw people were complaining that he is now on Oprah’s network.
“In the biblical book of Exodus, Moses is told to hide along a section of rock because God is going to pass by and Moses is going to get to see God’s back. In one ancient commentary on this story, the best Moses gets is a glimpse of where God just was. This same Moses reminds the Hebrews that when they experienced God, they “saw no form of any kind.” In the New Testament it’s written that God is the one “who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see.” There are limits to certainty because God, it’s repeated again and again, is spirit. And spirit has no shape or form. Spirit, Jesus said, is like the wind. It comes and goes and blows where it pleases. Words and images point us to God; they help us understand the divine, but they are not God.”
Many are judging this man. They don’t like what he is or is not saying. They chose to judge him without really knowing him. Many chose to judge him without ever really listening to him. So I admit I like him. He is causing those outside the Church to wrestle with God and faith. He is looking to meet people where they are at. He listens to the feeling and frustrations of others
and then responds accordingly.
I’m not finished with the book…but I believe Rob Bell plants seeds that lead people to wrestle with the deeper things of God. If ones faith is shaken by the questions he raises then maybe their faith isn’t built on a solid foundation.
On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand.
I Am thankful that in Jesus we have the very image of an invisible God. I am thankful that Bell is willing to listen to the culture around us and that he is able to encourage them to consider God again.
